Color Analysis: Elevate your makeup game

It seems that no one on TikTok has escaped the reviving trend of color analysis. A concept that was first made popular in the 80s by the book Color me Beautiful by Carol Jackson. At LH cosmetics we don’t believe in rules and what makeup you should have. Having said that, we have actually put together a fun guide to picking colors that will compliment your features. But remember, no rules since everyone is unique.

The seasons

To break it down simply, the original form is divided into four parts. Winter, spring, summer and autumn, are inspired by the impressionist painters of the 19th century, who were experts at capturing the colors of natural landscapes through the four seasons.

Undertone

To figure out which season you “belong to” the first step is to find your temperature and hue (undertone), is it warm, cool or neutral? You can do this by looking at the veins in your wrist, if they seem green it’s most likely you have a warm undertone, if they appear blue you have a cool undertone, if a mix it’s neutral. You can also try on gold and silver jewelry, if gold seems more flattering on you that indicates a warm undertone, and if silver seems better probably a cool undertone. If you can’t really tell a difference, it’s probably neutral.

Depth

The second step is about value (depth.) This is determined mainly by looking at your hair color, if it is lighter than medium light you are spring or summer and if it is darker you are autumn or winter.

The colors

The color palette for each season reflects the natural hues typically seen during that time of year. Simply put, you can associate the colors of each season as follows:

Winter - Dark, bright and cool. (For example dark blue and black)

Spring - Light, bright and warm. (For example light yellow and bright warm pink)

Summer - Light, muted and cool. (For example pale lavender and periwinkle)

Autumn - Dark, muted and warm. (For example dark Terracotta and olive green)

Remember this is all about having fun, and of course you should wear anything YOU feel comfortable in, but maybe this is the sign for you to try colors you haven’t considered before.
